Frieda Anderson | Des Moines 2017 Instructor frieda-andersonBERNINA Ambassador Frieda Anderson has been making quilts for over 40 years. Her original quilts are inspired by colors from nature and the everyday scenery that surrounds her Midwest landscape.

After discovering the art of hand dyeing fabric 20 years ago, Frieda now works almost exclusively with her own hand-dyed cottons and silks in fused and pieced quilt creations. She loves the dye process and particularly enjoys seeing the colors emerge from the wet fabric. Frieda has been designing and making original quilts since she made her first quilt in high school, and she enjoys the challenge of every step of quiltmaking from beginning to end. Daily walks in the woods with her dog are her inspiration for the hand-dyed fabric and original patterns found on her website at friestyle.com.

dsm17-david-taylor

David Taylor | Des Moines 2017 Instructor david-taylor

David Taylor’s love of fabric began when he was a child digging through his mother’s sewing trash bin, creating costumes, clothing, and “crafty things” on her 1967 Sears Kenmore sewing machine. But he wondered in those early days why anyone would want to cut up beautiful fabric.

Since then, artistic expression in David’s life has taken many forms, including a career as a graphic artist. With every quilt, his evolution from graphic artist to world-renowned quilter shows heart, passion, story, and the incredible ability to cut up beautiful fabrics and turn them into works of art.

David’s many awards include the Fairfield Master Award for Contemporary Artistry at the International Quilt Festival (2006, 2014); the Brother Machine Workmanship Award for Wall Quilts at the American Quilter’s Society Paducah Annual Quilt Show (2007); a two-time Best of Show winner at the IQA Spring Festival Chicago (2007, 2008); and Best MidArm/LongArm Quilting Award at Quilt Colorado (2014). David’s art quilts hang in numerous private collections worldwide. He is a passionate ambassador for Handi Quilter’s Sweet Sixteen quilting machine. See his quilts at davidtaylorquilts.com.
