SANDY FITZPATRICK | Fall Paducah 2017 Instructor sandy-fitzpatrickAs it often happens, Sandy Fitzpatrick’s love of sewing clothing transcended into quiltmaking. She found that stitching quilts was “sew” much easier since there are a lot of straight lines—and a quilt is one size fits all! When she tired of making traditional quilts, her creative spirit took over and she moved on to designing appliqué quilts.

Sandy’s fusible appliqué patterns are full of whimsy and will certainly bring a smile to your face. Sandy, owner of Hissyfitz Designs, is an appliqué quilt pattern designer whose goal is to get the quirky designs that are spinning around in her head down on paper for you to enjoy! Sandy strives to make her full-sized patterns easy to follow and fun to make. Her classes, focusing on machine appliqué and free-motion quilting, are equally fun. You’ll find her at www.hissyfitzdesigns.com.

MARK SHERMAN | Fall Paducah 2017 Instructor mark-shermanMark L. Sherman became a quilter in 2001 when he needed a Christmas tablecloth. After browsing in a big department store, Mark decided he could make his own tablecloth for less money. He went to Wal-Mart and bought a sewing machine and some fabric. The Christmas tablecloth was a great success! While looking for more fabric, Mark went to his neighborhood quilt shop, realized the creative potential in quilting, and quickly became an accomplished quilter.

His original designs are often inspired by amazing artists like Louis Comfort Tiffany who inspired his quilt, Wisteria, which is now a part of the permanent Founder’s Collection at The National Quilt Museum in Paducah, Kentucky. Mark learned to dye his own fabric as he focused on selecting just the right colors for his art quilts. He has developed many innovative techniques that he teaches to the quilting community. Mark draws his inspiration from nature, color, and antique stained glass. He enjoys encouraging and inspiring other quilters.

An international award-winning quilt artist as well as an accomplished pianist and organist with a great love for arts, history, and nature, Mark’s work has been featured in numerous books, publications, and special exhibits. See his quilts at www.remarkablequilts.com.
