    Special Exhibits

    Animals We Love

Quilt Alliance presents Animals We Love, the result of their 9th Annual Quilt Contest. The 89 small quilts honor an amazing array of animals including a giraffe, bees, goldfish, and a bighorn sheep. All of the quilts, representing many styles and techniques, are donated. After a summer and fall of touring, the quilts will be sold at an online auction in November 2015, one of the most important annual fundraisers for the Alliance for American Quilts.

    Authors’ Showcase

Artistry and craft are blended together in the Author Showcase Exhibit. Known for its dedication to creative content and vibrant publication, AQS provides a platform to view quilts, projects, and demonstrations. The displays feature the latest books from well-known authors. In addition to the popular how-to quilt books, quilt-fiction book series are offered that present rich characters in compelling stories. Find your own blend at the Authors’ Showcase Exhibit.

    living-colorLiving Colour

Living Colour! includes 32 vibrant works celebrating life across the spectrum, the result of the Living Colour! challenge exhibition curated by Australian fiber artist Brenda Gael Smith. Entrants were inspired by the pulsing life and color of the world! The selections showcase the diversity and richness of textiles in both abstract and representational form. The exhibition is presented in broad rainbow sequence and features a narrative embracing flora and fauna, marine life, colorful communities, powerful life forces, and creation stories.

nine-patchNew Quilts from an Old Favorite – Nine Patch

Each year The National Quilt Museum sponsors the New Quilts from an Old Favorite contest, challenging quiltmakers to create an innovative quilt based on a specific traditional pattern.

This year, quiltmakers were challenged to create original quilts based on the classic Nine Patch block pattern. They responded with a myriad of stunning interpretations! New Quilts from an Old Favorite – Nine Patch is an exhibit of the 18 finalist and winning quilts. These are not your grandmother’s Nine Patch quilts!

    Red, White & Quilted

Red and white quilts have a passionate, romantic history that repeats through generations of quilt owners and makers. The Red, White & Quilted exhibit includes six antique quilts and numerous newly constructed red-and-white beauties quilted by some of today’s finest quilters. Enjoy the beauty of these perennial favorites!

    SAQASAQA™ Wide Horizons IV

Works by quilt artists from Europe and the Middle East appear in the Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA) Wide Horizons IV exhibit. This biennial showcase exhibition of small quilts debuted at the European Patchwork Meeting (Carrefour du Patchwork). SAQA member participants were encouraged to think beyond landscapes—the theme Wide Horizons was wide open! This exhibit appears in the United States only at AQS QuiltWeek events in 2015.

    egyptianStitch Like an Egyptian

For thousands of years, complex canvas appliqué art decorated the interiors of tents and homes in the Middle East. The tradition continues, carried on by only a few Egyptian artists in their homeland. AQS is the exclusive United States distributor for the exhibition and sales of artwork by the Tentmakers of Cairo.

The patterns in these pieces are based on geometry, sacred texts, and ancient artwork. You will be amazed at this art form’s beauty, intricacy, and relevance to today’s quilts.

Every piece of appliqué art in the Stitch Like an Egyptian exhibit is for sale, and each one is hand signed by the maker. With prices ranging from $150 to $2,000, it is affordable art that you can own. Make one yours!

    wickedThe WICKED™ Cherrywood Challenge

AQS is pleased to present the entire traveling exhibit of the WICKED™ Cherrywood Challenge quilts. Artists from all over the United States were inspired by luscious Cherrywood hand-dyed fabric in “Wicked Greens” and black to make a 20″ square quilt using the theme “Wicked.” Most of the imaginative designs were influenced by the Broadway hit musical WICKED™.
