This is a process class that will help you find new ideas on how to use quilting to enhance the look of your quilt. Students will work on design, not technique. Hollis wants to take you further than just holding three layers together with stitches. The main objective is to use quilting lines to create depth, texture, tension, and shadowing, which will give your quilt new dimensions. Lines can be inspired by an endless variety of things (nature, architecture, technology, etc.) to add visual interest and reinforce the overall design of your quilt. Even straight lines can become a design in themselves! Students will discuss how to enhance what they like best and diminish what they like least in their quilts. This class is based on free-motion machine quilting, but the design techniques can be adapted to hand quilting. Students should have some experience in quilting by hand or machine.
