To start with, students will learn the basics of using a walking foot and the many designs that can be done with simple, straight lines. Then, you will spend quite a bit of time working on three different types of free-motion feathers. Lastly, Cindy will teach you her technique for background stippling. Many other things will be covered in this class, such as threads, needles, and batting. Plus, you will learn the “order of quilting” so that when you quilt your own quilts, you’ll know which type of quilting to do first, second, and so on. Let Cindy lead the way, and you’ll learn how to easily manage your large quilts on your home sewing machine!

In a one-on-one environment, Margaret will guide students on fundamental aspects from loading a quilt to proper tensioning and safe ergonomics to keep your body healthy. You will learn interesting background designs appropriate to your level so you can quilt happily and creatively from the front side of the longarm. Class will start with simple motifs, adding features and new components to create complex-looking yet beginner-friendly designs. Then you’ll discuss using templates and a few simple custom features all beginners can do. This class is intended to leave students with the confidence they need to quilt on their own when they go home. This class is geared towards new template users and those seeking more confidence using templates. The class will cover basic patterns created using both a straight template and as a 12” arc template. These patterns include linework and crosshatching. Students will each quilt a sampler quilt using templates and leave with the condifence to work with templates again and again!
