#23106, From Pattern to Quilt Using the Amazing “Heat-Set” Appliqué

Day: Thursday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Location: Hickory AB
Teacher: Grace Errea
Level: All levels

Member: $80 Retail: $100

The new and revolutionary Amazing “Heat-Set” Machine Appliqué technique designed by Grace creates quilts easily and quickly with the raw-edges. It is easy, foolproof, and the results are amazing. This technique leaves the quilt and the fabric soft and manageable, not stiff and boardlike, as fusible webs and glues do. In this class you will go through the entire process of creating a quilt. Starting with the pattern, creating the templates for fabric cutting, and then using this technique to create the quilt top. In the last portion of class, Grace will demostrate different quilting options to appliqué the shapes to the background, and complete the quilt by showing you a number of different edge-ing options including 3-D flanges and “free” edge bindings.

Day: Friday, 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Location: Hickory AB
Teacher: Grace Errea
Level: All levels

How many times you have struggled with finding just the right fabric for the background of your wonderful quilt. Sometimes the colors, values, or textures are just not working. You have visited every store in your neighborhood and still nothing! In this class Grace will demonstrate how to create her Randomly Pieced backgrounds. We will discuss fabric selection for backgrounds that are dynamic and showcase the focal point. We will also learn how to mix these fabrics so that they create a smooth, flawless background for a quilt. She will show you how to change value and colors smoothly, so you can create a sky that flows into a green garden. How to plan your color/value scheme so that the background works compatibly with the focal points that will be attached to it. All this will be easily pieced, and absolutely not one point in the blocks will have to match another point. So, you can keep your seam ripper at home. You will practice by creating your own version of the Randomly Pieced Background with fabrics of your choice

#23504, Reverse Appliqué

Day: Saturday, 8:30 – 11:30 a.m.
Location: Heritage Ballroom B
Teacher: Grace Errea
Level: All levels

Member: $48 Retail: $60

(Plus Kit Fee)

This is a brand new class and recently developed technique by Grace. The technique is an offshoot of Grace’s extremely popular and successful Heat-Set technique. The Reverse Appliqué uses the same product and a similar application of the product as the Heat-Set. The difference is that instead of applying fabric shapes on top of the background fabric, in Reverse Appliqué you will cut into the background to discover the shapes below! This is used heavily in MOLA designs but they are hand stitched. The technique as developed by Grace, is done by machine, is extemely easy and foolproof. It lends itself to stained glass/mosaic textile effects and graphic type design interpreted in fabric. This is your opportunity to learn from the inventor, developer, and expert of both the Heat-Set and the new Reverse Appliqué.

Location: Heritage Ballroom C
Teacher: Grace Errea
Level: All levels

Grace’s trademark is VALUE. In this lecture she will focus on value and its importance in textile work along with the various color harmonies, color theory, and psychology of color. The expressive aspects of color and value in nature and in art/quilts will be discussed. At completion of the lecture attendees will see value and color in a new way and will start releasing the artist within. They will learn how to use Value to create a focal point, to set the mood in a piece, to create 3-dimensionality or to give the perception of perspective in a landscape, and how to show-off those traditional blocks so the design shines. This is a crowd pleasing lecture, entertaining and fun, full of funny real anecdotes and actual quilts to show and tell. Supplies are not required for a lecture, although you may want to bring a pen and paper to take notes. An optional kit is available.
