Dizzy Daisies is a straight-forward project in which stems are the design focus. Students will learn the freezer-paper-on-the-top method of appliqué, as well as how to make super long stems and a simple hand embroidery stitch. With a limited color palette and a little bit of whimsy a delightful effect will be achieved.

Grace’s trademark is VALUE. In this lecture she will focus on value and its importance in textile work along with the various color harmonies, color theory, and psychology of color. The expressive aspects of color and value in nature and in art/quilts will be discussed. At completion of the lecture attendees will see value and color in a new way and will start releasing the artist within. They will learn how to use Value to create a focal point, to set the mood in a piece, to create 3-dimensionality or to give the perception of perspective in a landscape, and how to show-off those traditional blocks so the design shines. This is a crowd pleasing lecture, entertaining and fun, full of funny real anecdotes and actual quilts to show and tell. The technique will easily allow you to raise elements of the quilting design, give a relief effect, and increase the textural aspects of your quilt. It can be used in traditional blocks or in contemporary landspaces. Examples of both will be demonstrated. You will be glad to learn this technique as it will give you many opportunities to use it in quilts that you are doing now and in the future. Grace has developed a very easy and quick way of executing this technique using nothing but a sewing machine and a pair of scissors.
