The feather is the ideal design for free-motion quilting and is easier than you think. Practice the techniques used to achieve beautiful, consistent and smooth stitches. Then work on your own Butterfly Feather project! Your kit will include the preprinted top, two practice squares, batting, backing, binding, sewing machine needle, and thread. Learn to design beautiful feathers with ease. Start with the easy methods Sue uses for drawing the basic feather unit. Learn to design feathers on a curved spine, motif feathers such as feathered wreaths, and then on to designing your wholecloth style feathers. Sue has been designing her own unique wholecloth style feather and will share the fun, easy technique for doing this. Many of Sue’s designs will be available in a handout to use for inspiration. Enjoy these easy design techniques and go home with a design to use for your own project.

Students will receive the pattern for a small class project that uses all of the techniques in the Flower Garden borders. Learn to machine appliqué your project using Sue’s Stitched Raw-Edge Appliqué technique. Learn all the details of the technique including bias stems, points, and circles. Make your future quilts spectacular by adding beautiful appliqué borders.

In this half day workshop, play with free-motion machine quilting and the magic of a regulated stitch length (using BERNINA Stitch Regulator Darning Foot, aka BSR). Students will work on practice pieces to learn the details of successful free-motion quilting. Relax and enjoy while playing with fun designs such as traditional stipple quilting, curvy lines, and free-form feathers. Many quilts will be shown for inspiration.

Students will work on practice samples to perfect the skills needed to create beautiful yet simple quilt projects. Sue’s quilt SHADES OF AMISH is the inspiration for this class and students will receive the pattern for this lovely quilt. Learn the techniques to free-motion quilt beautiful feather designs, baskets, floral images, and much more. Sue’s new series of quilt projects called Innovative Amish Quilts will be shown in class.

Wool is used to create a beautiful machine appliquéd quilt project. Sue’s original design is inspired by a trip to Norway and the folk art images and colors of that unique country. Use fusible and a machine blanket stitch to create this small folksy quilt. Embellishment will be added for an even more personalized touch. A kit will be provided for students to make this a fun and stress-free workshop.

Ideas for deciding how to quilt your quilt top! Sue will cover her ideas to help make this step easier for every quilter. Many of Sue’s own quilts will be shown for inspiration as well as other quilters and their quilts. Pieced, appliqué, samplers, and more will be covered. Whether you will quilt your own quilts or you are having someone else do that, Sue’s information will help you end up with a quilt you are happy with! PowerPoint and actual quilts will be used in this presentation. Supplies are not required for a lecture, although you may want to bring a pen and paper to take notes.
