This classic Baltimore block is done in wool on a field of cotton patchwork for a fresh look. The appliqué is dimensional and accomplished using matching wool threads that blend with the fabrics and disappear for superb clarity. Use it as a center block for a table topper or make nine blocks for an entire quilt. Learn about different wool threads and fabrics, needle slanting techniques for adding dimension, and techniques for perfect appliqué placement. The stems are appliquéd using the herringbone stitch, which adds texture and interest. A variety of embroidery stitches will be presented, including the colonial knot.
