Daytona Beach 2019 Instructor | Laura Heine

Laura Heine

Daytona Beach 2019

The journey of quilting led registered nurse Laura Heine to open Fiberworks, her quilt shop in Billings, Montana. What started as making “just one” quilt grew into a true passion for the art of quiltmaking. Since then, Laura has designed over 50 different lines of fabrics, created her own collection of threads, and begun her current obsession: making collage quilts that showcase fused appliqué, cut flower motifs, and the use of impressionistic color and value to create one-of-a-kind quilts. Laura’s work has been published in many magazines, and her book, Color Fusion: Fiberworks by Laura Heine, documents her quilting journey. Laura has won many awards, the most prestigious being the $10,000 BERNINA Award for Best Machine Workmanship from AQS. Visit Laura’s shop at fiberworks-heine.com.

Ann Holte

Daytona Beach 2019

Ann has been quilting since 1975, when she thought everything had to be pieced and quilted by hand to be a “real quilt.” Since then, she has learned that real quilts are sewn in as many ways as there are quilters. She is particularly interested in working with vintage quilts to translate and interpret their designs by using modern methods and techniques. Ann started teaching in the 1980s and, along with her husband, opened a quilt shop in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania in 1997. Now living in the Hershey area, she is involved with four quilt guilds, two of which she started, and meets regularly with an antique quilt study group in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. She teaches quilting workshops; delivers lectures at quilt guilds, historical societies, and national retreats and shows; designs patterns and quilting templates; and writes about quilting.
