Artist, entrepreneur, teacher, and author Laura Murray began her experimentation with textile color and texture in 1989. Laura’s artistic aspiration is similar to the Star Trek mission: “Going where no one has gone before.” Complexity and speed are not always easy partners; Laura’s approach is to find and use the most direct path to her desired results.
Encouraged by a number of ribbons won at various juried quilting exhibits across the country, Laura went on to author articles, write a book, teach, design her own stamp and stencil products, and develop her own techniques. Her work, which appears in books, magazines, quilt calendars, and DVDs, includes wearable art and award-winning quilts. Laura’s recent work led to the development of a fusible appliqué technique using stamps, paint sticks, and fusible web to easily create seemingly complex designs without sewing.
