Mary Sorensen’s specialty, traditional fine hand appliqué from original patterns, is characterized by elegant, formal lines and the complex layering of small pieces, with an emphasis on using a myriad of fabrics to create visual texture and excitement. Real-time video demonstrations are projected to allow everyone in class to get a detailed look at each technique demonstrated, and allows more time for individual hands-on help.

Mary’s flawless appliqué technique and humorous, hands-on approach to teaching have motivated students to return to handwork with enthusiasm. Mary has taught and lectured at guilds and conferences throughout the United States and her work has appeared in a number of quilt publications. Mary is from Longwood, Florida, and has been making quilts since the 1970s. Her website is www.maryappliques.com.
