Don’t you just love batiks? In this class, students will create their own batik fabrics using soy wax and flour paste. First, you’ll apply wax and paste using a variety of methods (syringes, brushes, stamps, etc.). Then, you’ll use Procion MX dyes to hand-dye your fabrics. The resist process reveals beautiful hand-dyed batiks that will be uniquely your own! You’ll love learning the resist dye process, and you’ll get to take home fabrics that nobody else owns because you created them yourself. With a little prep work, you can even make your own stamps and stencils! This is a class not to be missed.

Registration for this class includes show admission for Thursday.

Did you ever want to learn how to create just the right color of fabric for a project? In this class, students will look at how to create a range of colors from a limited number of “pure” Procion MX dyes. You will create value gradations of your chosen color, create gradations around the color wheel, and create muted colors by going across the color wheel. You will go home with at least 6 yards of dyed fabrics (24 fat quarters). As time permits, you will also explore overdyeing – redying fabrics that already have some color. A detailed handout will be provided for your continued exploration. Examples of quilts made using color gradations will be available for inspiration.

Registration for this class includes show admission for Friday.

Build your stash with your own hand-dyed fabrics! Learn about dyeing fabric using Procion MX Fiber Reactive dyes using a low water immersion process. Participants will dye about six yards of fabric using bound resist (tie-dye/shibori), ice dyeing, and a few variations. When you’ve finished, you’ll have made 16 fat quarters and one large 2-yard piece that can be used for the back of a quilt or as an “artful” wholecloth quilt top! Through the process, you will learn everything you need to be able to continue exploring these processes on your own. A detailed handout will be provided. Examples of quilts made using dyed fabrics will be available for inspiration.

Registration for this class includes show admission for Wednesday.

Join Pat and learn how to create fabric that is uniquely yours and a work of art in and of itself. You’ll learn about the difference between dyes, transparent textile paints, and opaque textile paints. Learn to create texture and design on fabric using stamps, stencils, and found objects as well as items from nature (printing with leaves and flowers). Pat will bring a large assortment of tools and nature items to work with, but you are also welcome to bring items that you would like to experiment with. Quilts using printed fabrics will be available for inspiration. The best way to make a unique quilt is to create your own fabric!
