Barn quilts were first seen across America’s rural landscape hundreds of years ago, but it wasn’t until the early 2000s that we saw a revival of this folk art with a grassroots movement that began in Ohio. Barn quilts are a quilt block painted on wood and hung on barns that reflect the family’s heritage and celebrate the women’s role in agriculture through the beautiful quilt blocks they created. Barn quilts can bring that history directly into our homes and can be displayed proudly from a family room, a kitchen, or a backyard gathering place. Katie will walk you through creating your own unique barn quilt on a wooden pallet square! The class will offer several different patterns to choose from and many different paint colors from Fusion Mineral Paint. Come relax and paint with your quilty friends!

This docu-story reveals the personal life of Bob Ross through the loving accounts of close friends and family, childhood photographs, and rare archive footage – what you know: his unwaivering dedication to wildlife for example, and what you don’t know: Bob Ross’ straight hair, his fascination with fast cars, and so much more. And you’ll learn how one little TV commerical to advertise local painting classes slowly turned this gentle-mannered fellow from simple beginnings into a viral phenomenon that continues to allow millions around the world to realize their dream of becoming an artist. About the Rotary Antique Quilt Show
At the request of Paducah’s AQS Quilt Show founders, Bill and Meredith Schroeder, the Rotary Club of Paducah embarked on their first Antique Quilt Show and Sale in April 1989. The annual show is now an official sanctioned event of AQS QuiltWeek. The Rotary Antique Quilt Show offers some of the world’s most beautiful quilts, each year featuring various themed quilts. In addition, the show offers a Merchant Mall with world-renowned vendors.

Proceeds = Scholarships
Proceeds from this show provide college scholarships annually for local students through the Rotary Education Assistance Program (REAP). In 2010, the Rotary Club of Paducah initiated the idea of the Community Scholarship Program as a public-private partnership with strong participation from Rotary, the City of Paducah, McCracken County Fiscal Court, West Kentucky Community and Technical College, and a number of local businesses, along with Paducah Junior College, Inc. and partnering high schools. The intent of this scholarship is to provide gap funding to assist students in attaining a two-year degree or industry certification at West Kentucky Community and Technical College.

The hand stitching in this class is big, fun, and easy; no precision here! Don’t worry if you don’t have the “right” fabrics in the morning; you’ll paint an assortment of fabrics to create your own prints and patterned fabrics, then create a small quilt (about 18″ x 18″) that you can hang on the wall, frame, or make into a pillow or tote bag. Don’t miss this day full of fun and creativity!
