Many painters lay down a “ground” color called an underpainting, and that ground color then influences the colors of the overpainting, unifying the composition. You will begin by making a simple still life inspired by actual still life, creating a background, foreground, and simplified vase and flowers against a contrasting foundation fabric. You will then cut up the creation to reassemble the parts on a second foundation of the same color creating a grid like construction, and the results are amazing.
