Enthusiastic quilt teacher Wendy Butler Berns is an award-winning quilt artist and teacher who found her passion for quilting in 1993. She is recognized for her bold use of color, unusual fabrics, and unconventional techniques. Her quilts are inspired by a desire to capture the colorful yet changing world around her. Her work includes unabashed free-motion machine quilting, embellishing, and picture image machine appliqué in captivating original designs. Her passionate, energetic teaching style encourages and inspires students, especially those who are new to exploring “out of the box” quilting construction and design. There’s an artist within each quilter, and Wendy encourages no-fear, spontaneous, creative play.

Wendy’s work and articles appear in many quilt publications. Her book, Photo Album Quilts, features her picture image machine appliqué process. Wendy teaches online and at guilds, retreats, and conferences. She has appeared on The Quilt Show, Quilting Arts TV, and Sewing with Nancy Zieman. She is the 19th recipient of the Jewel Pearce Patterson Teacher’s Scholarship. In 2011, Wendy curated Out on a Limb, a traveling exhibition of her work along with quilts of her students.
