Are you looking to learn a fun and relaxing technique that you can take with you on the go? This is the class for you! Sashiko is a form of decorative reinforcement stitching or functional embroidery from Japan. In this introductory workshop to hand sashiko, students will learn about the history of sashiko and the basic supplies needed to stitch this unique style. Jen will also show you how to work the stitch and transfer designs, as well as discuss Sashiko’s application in big-stitch hand quilting and boro, Japanese mending. Students will stitch a preprinted coaster that can be finished in class or at home. Time permitting, students will also mend clothing using sashiko stitches. Stitchers beware… Sashiko is addictive!
